Coromatic increases backup power production – meets society’s need for strengthened preparedness
Coromatic, the Nordic region’s leading provider of solutions for mission-critical infrastructure and part of E.ON, is expanding its backup power production capacity. The expansion in Östersund and Halmstad is driven by a sharp rise in demand for locally produced backup power in Scandinavia, and advanced solutions will be supplied from these locations to critical operations across the Nordic region. The first phase of the expansion in Östersund is currently becoming operational, which will further strengthen the company’s position as the largest manufacturer of backup power solutions in the Nordic region.
The growing demand for backup power is driven by electrification, digitalisation and an increasing need for robust preparedness. Meanwhile, data centers, healthcare facilities, telecommunications networks and other essential public services are placing heightened demands on secure, uninterruptible power supplies. Backup power is vital for ensuring continuous operations when main power grids experience disruptions or outages.
“This creates increased market pressure, as both businesses and public sector organisations must secure effective power supply contingency plans. Currently, we are witnessing significant interest in the domestic industry and the reliability that comes with having manufacturing geographically close. We are making this strategic investment in Swedish production to meet demand while also contributing to the national security of supply,” says Kim Nilsson, Group Manufacturing Director at Coromatic.
As a provider of comprehensive backup power solutions, Coromatic combines consultancy and local manufacturing with regional warehousing and an extensive Nordic service organisation. This ensures strong Nordic supply preparedness and that customers have access to expertise and components for both routine and crisis maintenance.

An end-to-end provider with local production, service organisation and warehousing.
As a supplier of critical infrastructure, we provide complete visibility and transparency throughout the entire backup power supply chain. Coromatic configures the control systems, and work exclusively with carefully selected suppliers,” continues Kim Nilsson.
The company’s solutions primarily operate on fossil-free fuels such as HVO100, but are also engineered to run on whatever fuel that might be available in a crisis.
Doubled capacity
In recent years, Coromatic has invested in expanding production capacity in both Halmstad and Östersund. In Östersund, the first section of the new manufacturing facility is now operational. An additional phase is scheduled for spring 2027. In total, this investment will double the production capacity in Östersund.
“By bringing these new production facilities into operation in Östersund, alongside our Halmstad site and an expanding Nordic service organisation, we are exceptionally well positioned to deliver the solutions needed to build a resilient society,” Kim Nilsson concludes.
Coromatic manufactures both stationary and mobile backup power systems. The company offers a combination of standardised and tailor-made solutions that safeguard critical infrastructure and secure operations for clients in the telecoms, industrial, logistics and energy generation sectors.
