Coromatic to build critical infrastructure to enable future science at the world-leading research facility ESS
Coromatic, the leading provider of mission-critical infrastructure for secure power supply and data communications, has been awarded two server room contracts by the European Spallation Source (ESS). ESS is a pan-European multi-disciplinary research infrastructure based on the world’s most powerful neutron source. The research facility will give scientists new possibilities in a broad range of research areas, including life science, engineering materials and magnetism.
ESS is currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, with the data management and software center (DMSC) located in Copenhagen, Denmark. The DMSC is a key part of the research facility, as it is responsible for scientific computing at ESS. Robust data centre infrastructure in Copenhagen and Lund is crucially important for ESS and will provide the compute and storage capacity for scientific computing, controls, data management and IT, enabling resilient operation of ESS as a next generation research center.
Following two separate public tenders, Coromatic was awarded the contract to design and build the server rooms in Copenhagen and Lund. Coromatic will assume full responsibility for the construction and deliver the server rooms with all necessary infrastructure installed.

Over the years, Coromatic has secured power and data communications to several institutions in the science and academic sector, including ESS, where it implemented the physical data and communications network at the facility in Lund.
“Science plays a central role in solving the complex challenges of today and creates the opportunities and businesses of tomorrow. These contracts to deliver mission-critical infrastructure to one of the biggest and most important science projects in Europe are something we are proud of and it is tangible proof that we have the ability to deliver resilient and robust data center solutions,” says Åsa Wikensten, Head of Data Center and Connected Workplace, Coromatic.
